LeadMaster F.A.Q – merge fields work in email templates

Why don’t the merge fields work in email templates?

  • This sometimes happens when a user highlights only part of the variable and then formats it resulting in formatting tags getting between the brackets [ ].
  • For example in this HTML the brackets surrounds the formatting [<strong><span style=”text-decoration:underline;”>ContactFirstName]</span></strong>.  There cannot be anything inside of the left and right braces brackets “ContactFirstName”.  The code should read:<strong><span style=”text-decoration:underline;”>[ContactFirstName]</span></strong>
  • Note the bracket, then the format, then ContactFirstName is incorrect.
  • It should be format, bracket, ContactFirstName, bracket – for example <strong>
    [ContactFirstName]</strong>
  • You can correct the html by opening the template and either fixing the code from the HTML view or by removing that entire line and re-entering the merge field and ensuring that you fully highlight the entire merge field including braces prior to applying any formatting.
  • The issue is only an issue when the user does not highlight the entire merge field and braces when applying formatting.
